What is an engineer?

The engineer is the person who operates the recording equipment for you while you are at the studio.

What is a session?

A session is the time you have booked here to do your recording project. We usually recommend this is booked in 8 hour blocks, as in our experience this seems to be the most productive session length. If however you have other requirements we may be able to cater for them too. Give us a call and we can discuss them.

What is backline?

The drum kit, guitar and bass amplifiers that we can provide for you to record through. Details of the backline gear we have here is provided on our 'facilities & equipment' list on the 'recording' homepage.

How long will it take to record a CD?

That can be a difficult question to answer. A general rule of thumb for bands is that to record and mix 3 tracks for a demo should take around 8-12 hours. Larger scale projects, like singles or an album can vary a great deal. It's a good idea to book a consultation appointment here and we can show you around and discuss the details and prices for your project in more depth.

Can we come in early before the session to set up?

No. Sessions start at the stated time. A lot of vital decisions are made at the start of a session. Setting up includes a lot of communication between the band and the engineer as to the positioning of equipment & microphone placement so we have to charge for this.

Can we all play live at the same time?

Yes. That's how we normally record all the instrumentation and vocals (guide tracks) as a basic foundation to build the remainder of your recording on.
